Lowder New Homes has made green initiatives an energy efficiency standard in all our homes. We go above and beyond standard building codes to conserve energy, improve performance and save our homeowners money on utility bills.
What makes a home energy-efficient, and how does Lowder measure up?
Insulation systems are rated by their R-value. The higher the R-value, the more energy they conserve. Strong R-values produce even temperatures throughout the house, lower utility bills and create a quieter home environment. When looking for houses in Montgomery or Millbrook, an energy-efficient choice will pay dividends the entire time you live there!
Lowder New Homes feature Energy Star® energy-efficient, high-density exterior wall insulation with an R-value of 15 or better, exceeding standard building code. We use loose-fill fiberglass attic insulation blown to a thickness of 16” to achieve an R-value of 38, which is also well above code. Fiberglass insulation has superior qualities to other insulating systems such as spray foam.
Current building codes require your heating and cooling system to have a Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating of 13. Our standard is an Energy Star® qualified system with a SEER rating of 15. In addition to using less energy to operate, it’s quieter, reduces indoor humidity better and improves the overall comfort of your home.
Windows are more than pretty features for your home. They keep heat out in the summer and cold at bay in the winter. Quality Energy Star® windows do not allow ultraviolet light from the sun to come through and discolor carpets and furnishings. That’s why we use energy-efficient, high-performance “Low E” windows in every home we build.
We do not use builder-grade appliances. Instead we choose to include quality GE® appliances that are Energy Star® qualified and dependable.
Lowder is Green Energy Key® certified by the Home Builders Association of Alabama and certified by the National Association of Home Builders as a Green Professional Builder. Lowder is also an Energy Star® Building Partner.
