As a testament to the overall quality of education in Montgomery, Alabama, a new school ranking website known as The School Review has rated eight schools within Montgomery Public Schools in the top ten percent of all schools nationwide. Among those schools honorably mentioned is the new Wilson Elementary School, located within walking distance of the New Park subdivision in East Montgomery, one of Lowder’s preferred new neighborhoods.
In a press release, MPS superintendent Ann Roy Moore praised the recent recognition. “I am very excited about the progress we are making as a system,” she said. “We aren’t finished – but we are moving forward.”
Danny Dockman, chief methodologist for The School Review, also had glowing words for MPS: “Montgomery County Public Schools should be proud to have five ‘A+’ schools in their district,” he said. “We know that any child’s education is of tremendous importance to parents and by providing the most comprehensive data available, we hope to give parents the information they need to engage local school leaders, PTAs and make informed choices for their families.”
The School Review ranks schools based on a number of criteria, including safety, academic standards and learning environment, deriving its results from data received from the U.S. Department of Education. Wilson Elementary was rated the sixth best school in Montgomery County, according to the rankings.
New Park has been one of the fastest-growing new communities in East Montgomery for the last several years. The rapid growth of this area has prompted the opening of several new schools, including J.W. Wilson Elementary School. The fact that one of the newest schools in the state has already achieved such high ratings is remarkable. It is one of the reasons New Park has become a coveted destination for growing families.
